Effect of Bergamot Leaves (Citrus bergamia) in the Crosstalk between Adipose Tissue and Liver of Diet-Induced Obese Rats

The excessive consumption of diets rich in sugar and fat is associated with metabolic manifestations involving adipose tissue the liver. Bergamot, due to its antioxidant anti-inflammatory properties, has been used treat disorders. This work aimed verify effect Bergamot leaves extract (BLE) on crosstalk tissue–liver axis obese rats. For 20 weeks, Wistar rats were distributed into two groups: control (Control) high sugar–fat (HSF) diet groups. Afterwards, animals redistributed three groups for 10 weeks: + vehicle (Control, n = 08), HSF (HSF, BLE (HSF BLE, 08). was carried out daily by gavage (50 mg/kg). group presented obesity, hyperglycemia, hypertriglyceridemia, insulin resistance, hepatic microvesicular steatosis, higher inflammation oxidative stress liver tissue. In comparison group, showed protection reducing triglyceride levels, tissues. acted when compared which may have reflected improvement resistance dyslipidemia.
